Venice

Venice has to be one of the most photographed cities in the world - and why not. Travel and photography go hand in hand memories of places preserved on film (or memory card) provide those cherished memories for future years.

Like many others before me I am constantly fascinated by visions of venice, its history enveloped in every scene, the architecture and the atmosphere ever appealing and beckoning you back for more. It is a city I can always return to in anticipation of new images. The main tourist areas have been photographed so many times it is difficult to create something new but beyond the water front are districts like Castello which have quiet canals and residential areas where the Venetians have lived for centuries. If I ever visit Venice again I will go in search of these places and try to capture more of the real or hidden Venice. For now I am still drawn to the predominant features which will always be Venice. I can only hope my photographs will do the city justice. As Claude Monet said when he visited Venice in 1908 :
"It is too beautiful to be painted! It is untranslatable!"
